Who We Are

Deborah Engel, Maplewood mom of three, is the founder of Work and Play, a coworking space with childcare and birthday parties in downtown South Orange, NJ. Learn more about Work and Play.  Before founding Work and Play, Deborah worked in public relations, as Vice President of The Lippin Group, and as a freelancer.  Deborah loves meeting fellow working parents to chat about balancing careers and children. She also still dabbles in PR and can offer her services to the members of General Store and the overall Work and Play community.

Amy Howlett, Maplewood mom of two and Director of Special Events at Work and Play, came up with the idea for General Store while brainstorming with Deborah about ways Work and Play could support the vibrant local community of makers and independent store owners.  Before having kids, Amy was a lawyer at Sullivan and Cromwell, LLP, and taught a human rights seminar at Fordham University School of law.  Amy spends her free time hanging with her family (husband, two boys, three cats, and one dog) and surfing with her middle-aged, novice surf crew.
